In 2024, the emphasis on sustainability in Dutch supermarkets will grow steadily. Major retailers are investing in greener packaging and local, organic products. Consumer demand for sustainable options is driving this shift, while government policy plays a role as well. The use of plastic is being further reduced, with innovative alternatives emerging. In addition, supermarket chains are strengthening partnerships with sustainable farmers and producers, which promotes transparency and traceability. While challenges remain, this trend promises a promising path to a more environmentally responsible future in retail.

The digitalization of toys continues to develop, with smart integrations of augmented reality and interactive elements. Sustainability is of paramount importance, with a growing range of environmentally friendly produced toys and recycling initiatives. Furthermore, innovative designs and materials were on display, where innovation goes hand in hand with classic play values such as creativity, social interaction and physical activity. In short, the Toy Fair 2024 once again brought the toys of the future without losing sight of the past!
Increased use of non-sustainable materials.
By the end of 2024, we see a noticeable increase in the use of non-sustainable materials in various sectors. Despite growing awareness of the impact of these materials on the environment, companies and consumers often continue to opt for cheaper, but environmentally harmful options. This trend is worrying given the urgent need for sustainable alternatives to tackle the climate crisis. Experts are calling for stricter regulations and incentives to accelerate the transition to more sustainable materials and promote a resilient, green economy. In contrast to this trend, Lumen Loyalty exclusively uses sustainable materials within its collectible programs.
